My Philosophy

In working with clients, my primary goal is to help reduce pain, make life more satisfying, and begin building toward a more hopeful future. I have led anger management groups with adolescents for whom anger management has been mandated by the McHenry County Courts, and I’ve also worked with emotionally challenged adolescents in a residential group setting. My formal training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) by the EMDR Institute proves to be particularly useful in the treatment of traumas including PTSD, sexual abuse, and common childhood traumas (such as rejection and humiliation). I believe that one of the reasons EMDR is so successful is due to its ability to comprehensively treat past, present, and future traumas.

My Background

I received my bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in business from Brigham Young University and my Master of Science in Community Counseling from National-Louis University. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I have also completed the requirements and testing necessary to receive a National Certified Counselor designation. I have been married for more than 40 years to the same woman, with whom I have reared three children, and I am an avid fly fisherman (I was first introduced to the sport by my wife). I’ve actively fished many of the blue ribbon trout rivers of the West and now focus my efforts on the Green River in Utah and the Salt, Grays, and Snake rivers in western Wyoming. When we’re not fishing, my wife and I spend most of our time spoiling our grandchildren.
