My Philosophy
As the Executive Director and founder of Choices Counseling and Coaching, I am dedicated to guiding my clients through rough patches through the individual journey of their lives. My experience as a mother, grandmother, stepmother, counselor and professor has given me a great deal of insight into life issues, and together with my professional training this allows me to take a personalized approach to helping each individual client address their own issues. I have been practicing in a clinical setting for over 30 years, and I believe that although life can be difficult and change can be challenging, hope lives in the choices we make every day.
My Background
I have a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Chicago, 1988, and have had my clinical license since 1990. I was a tenured professor at National Louis University in the Master of Counseling program for 29 years and served as the department chair for 7 years. I was also a clinical supervisor for students studying counseling at the Lisle campus. Throughout my counseling career, I have taken every opportunity to grow and strengthen my skill set by completing a variety of advanced classes and certifications. These include:
- A certificate in Life Coaching through the Institute of Life Coaching
- Advanced certification in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing
- Divorce Mediation through Northwestern University
- Field trials contributor to the DSM-5
- Trauma specialist
